Tooth Whitening
The
new materials and technology available today make it easier
than ever to have a whiter smile. Tooth whitening is a procedure
that brightens stained, discolored or generally yellow teeth
and can be performed on vital teeth with no damage to the
tooth structure.
Our whitening procedure can be done either in our dental
office (known as chair-side whitening) or at home. Chair-side
whitening is a safe, convenient and cost effective process
that requires just one office visit and can be completed in
about 90 minutes. An activating gel is first applied to the
surface of the teeth. A special light technology is than used
to activate the gel. The process is repeated over 3-4 intervals
to achieve optimum results.
Home-use whitening takes about one to two weeks to complete
and requires the fabrication of custom-fitted mouth trays,
which are worn daily for 30 minutes. The total process requires
2 office visits.
Occasionally, patients experience mild sensitivity to cold
food and beverages for a day or two following the procedure.
Other than this temporary sensitivity, tooth whitening has
no known side effects.
